We are taking action now to benefit our student-athletes. Adding two best-in-class turf fields to our campus is an unprecedented, long-term investment in our field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and softball programs.
The Best Turf Fields—Right Now
Athletics are ingrained in every Agnes Irwin education. Here, Owls come to understand more deeply—and live out—our core values.
Athletics complete the student experience and propel into the world graduates who apply grit, teamwork, and agency—because on the field they found and used their voices.
Like every essential campus space, the best athletic facilities call for careful planning and generous investment. Our current master plan prioritized new and renewed turf fields, benefiting student-athletes playing in four sports. Thanks to early gifts from parents and alumnae, we put two outstanding surfaces in play for the fall 2025 season.
This summer, Carter Field became the best independent-school facility for field hockey, thanks to its Paris GT Zero turf. This revolutionary, carbon-zero product is the choice of the U.S. National Field Hockey Team, and no other school in the state or region has it.
Likewise, Phelps Field now features a state-of-the-art playing surface, RootZone 3D Series Astroturf, formulated for soccer and lacrosse—and backed by independent research.
Agnes Irwin girls playing soccer and field hockey are benefiting right now from these improvements, with our lacrosse and softball teams soon to follow.
Invest in Our Home Field Advantage
We are grateful to the leadership of Agnes Irwin community members who made it possible for us to respond so efficiently and jump ahead of the competition.
But the game isn't over yet. The action we take today, leveraging years of smart planning, will enable us to attract more top-notch athletes, position Owls for recruitment to elite NCAA schools, and eventually hoist more championship banners.
When you join our leadership donors, you do more than helping reach a goal. You are tallying an assist on the next goals the Owls score—and the life goals they will soon pursue. We invite you to put on your cleats and take up the challenge of this crucial match.

“When our students go on to play in college, they’re playing on turf. Just like academics and life, we are preparing them for the next level.”
—Courtney Lubbe, Co-Director of Athletics
FOR THE WIN—and for More Championships
Seeing our Owls in action is believing. Attend any one of their games and you witness iron-fire determination and passion that demands our support on the sidelines and in the FOR THE WIN campaign.
We must field the best teams, a process that calls for Agnes Irwin to put our best foot forward in welcoming future Owls to the fields of their dreams.
Four Agnes Irwin sports require turf as a training and competition venue: field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and softball. Our high-achieving athletes at every level deserve these new turf fields, which are finally commensurate with their talents and dedication
More than 100 Owls have been recruited to play these sports for Division I, II, and III collegiate programs since 2018. Those doors will open wider with the best facilities, enabling student-athletes at every level—Upper and Middle School, Varsity and JV—to practice and play right here on campus.
